The Great Divider

What does the great divider mean?

The President of the United States

The Great Divider is another term for the President of the United States (POTUS). It was often used by Republicans to refer to Barack Obama when he was in office and then used by Democrats to refer to Donald Trump when he took office.

The nickname plays off the "Great Divide", which is the longitudinal line that runs down the U.S. where water flows west or east. But instead of water, the nickname asserts that the POTUS is dividing the American people instead of uniting them. This could be for nefarious purposes or just to split people among party lines.
