A yuppie is a young urban professional. It describes a person who is young, lives in an urban area, and is an upwardly-mobile, professional.

This person has a college degree and well paying job in a major metropolitan city. The term was became popular in the 1980s when rampant capitalism swallowed up millions of youths. Patrick Bateman from the movie American Psycho is a perfect example of a yuppie. Nowadays, when a yuppie is mixed with a hipster, you get a yuccie.
