A health term often used by medical professionals to refer to an infection that prevents normal breathing and can result in death.
ARI is a serious infection that commonly begins as a viral infection in the nose, trachea, or lungs and can spread to the entire respiratory system if it is not treated. Since ARI prevents the body from getting oxygen, it may result in death of the individual. Old adults, young children, and persons with immune system disorders are especially susceptible to ARI.
