Among those who choose their friends out of convenience, BFFN stands for "best friend for now." This slightly-mercenary acronym is a variant of the more popular (and more earnest) BFF.

A best friend for now is a person you've chosen to be good friends with for the moment, but will likely spend less time with in the future. For example, if an acquaintance of yours owns a video game system you can't afford but want to play, that acquaintance may become your BFFN while you play their sick new video games.
