People tend to use BFFR (be f***ing for real) in one of two ways. The first is to ask others to stop frontin and be honest. The second, and more common, is as a synonym for "Seriously?! FR?!"
You're most likely to encounter BFFR on social media, in messages posted by users who are incredulous and/or angry about something. Using BFFR allows these users to shorten their messages considerably and swear without swearing (bypassing some platforms' automated content filters).
Hopefully, you won't receive BFFR in messages from your friends or family. If you do, you likely said something incredibly foolish.
