DNF means did not finish. It is a sports acronym that indicates an athlete did not finish an event he or she started.

The DNF acronym most commonly appears during the summer or winter Olympics in events such as track, speed skating, or skiing. A competitor usually does not finish because of an injury, quitting, or inclement weather circumstances. Along with the Olympics, the acronym may appear in other racing events such as auto racing.
