Baseball Slang Quiz: Can you bat 1.000?
A baseball statistic that indicates a fielding error was made by the shortstop.
The term consists of E and the player's position. Baseball positions are sometimes referred to by numbers, which is useful for recording statistics in score books. The positions and numbers are: 1-Pitcher, 2-Catcher, 3-First base, 4-Second base, 5-Third base, 6-Shortstop, 7-Left field, 8-Center field, and 9-Right field. An error by a fielder does not count as a hit and if a baserunner scores a run because of an error, the run is considered unearned instead of earned.
