Earjacking

What does earjacking mean?

Listening in on someone else's conversation

Earjacking is a term for when a person listens in on a conversation and hears information that he is not supposed to know. Earjacking is more commonly known as eavesdropping.

The term combines "ear" and "jacking" because it involves stealing information that you heard, similarly to how carjacking refers to stealing a car. You should always be on guard for earjackers when discussing sensitive information in public, such as a coffee shop or at a restaurant.
