An elevator budget is a big budget, allowing you to purchase (or rent) more expensive things, such as apartments, cars, and clothes. For example, your friend may exclaim before a night out on the town, "We're living large tonight! Mama's got an elevator budget!"
Origin of elevator budget
The "elevator budget" slang term comes from the high price of apartments with elevators on the Manhattan Island of New York City. If a person can afford an apartment with an elevator, they have a higher budget than those who can only afford apartments without an elevator (where they have to walk up the stairs).
