What is forex short for?

Forex is an abbreviation for the foreign exchange market - a global financial market in which banks and other large financial firms trade currency. Traders can purchase and sell any world currency through Forex, 24 hours a day, five days a week.

Because a typical day of Forex trading involves investors exchanging multiple trillions of dollars worth of currency, it is by far the world's largest financial market. You may also see Forex abbreviated even further, to just FX.
