Mail-in rebate

An acronym for the type of rebate that provides money back if you send proof of purchase to the manufacturer in the mail; usually takes a long time to get the money back and therefore is worse for the consumer than an instant rebate; can be seen on couponing forums and other consumer sites.

The MIR says it will take 8-10 weeks to get the rebate. Ugh
