When do people use Omicron?
Most people use Omicron when talking about covid and healthcare, but you may encounter it in economic contexts when discussing its effect on the economy. You may also see it on social media through the use of memes or at the epicenter of heated covid debates.
Omicron controversy
QAnon conspiracy theorists, or "QAnutters" (as some people call them), claim that the omicron name comes from a misspelling of "omicrom," a supposed covert military operation to control the world. While Omicron sounds like a supervillain's secretive operation, health officials are actually naming the variants after letters in the Greek alphabet, much like U.S. weather experts name hurricanes following the U.S. alphabet.
