RMA

Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) is a number provided to a customer by a vendor as part of the merchandise return process. RMAs are issued when a customer attempts to return merchandise in search of a refund, repair, or replacement.

You will most likely encounter an RMA when returning a defective product via the mail. After consulting with the vendor and technician and the product is deemed defective, you will receive an RMA to write on the outside of the box the product is being shipped in.

People typically see the RMA acronym in online forums discussing a return, or they may hear it referenced by the vendor or technician helping with the return of a product. When returning an item, the RMA is helpful for both the vendor and customer for reference and tracking purposes.
