Gamers use soulslike to describe video games that are similar to FromSoftware's Dark Souls (and the publisher's other 3D action RPGs). Specifically, soulslike games:

• Punish players for dying, by resetting progress or removing items
• Reward players for unconventional thinking and highly-skilled play
• Include dense, open-ended narratives and game maps
