AIM is an acronym well known among millennials that refers to American Online's (AOL) instant messaging program. It was popular among teenagers in the late 1990s and early 2000s but is now discontinued.
Origin of AIM
AOL released AIM in 1997 as one of the first IM programs. It became the most popular online chat program in the 2000s as more people purchased computers and went online.
Teenagers and young adults were the most common users of AIM for many years, often messaging their friends through the program. However, after several companies acquired AIM, Verizon discontinued AIM on December 15, 2017.
