Beardo

What is a beardo?

A person with a beard

Beardo is a term popularized by Pete Hegseth, the United States Secretary of War, to describe men who sport what he calls an “unprofessional” bearded look. Hegseth first started using the word on-air in the late 2010s as a Fox News host, typically in a joking or critical manner when commenting on men with thick, scruffy facial hair that doesn't conform to traditional clean-shaven standards.

While Hegseth didn't invent the term, his frequent use popularized "beardo," including when he made a speech on September 30, 2025, addressing the appearance of troops. Outside of Hegseth's usage, people may also use “beardo” online to playfully poke fun at guys with large or rugged beards, often in memes or lighthearted teasing.

Example
