Chip Damage

What does chip damage mean?

Damage inflicted on a blocking opponent

Chip damage is a video game term that refers to the small amount of damage delivered to a player who is blocking an opponent's special move. It plays off the idea of slowly chipping away at an object to break it apart.

Chip damage most commonly occurs in fighting games such as Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. A player may be able to KO an opponent through chip damage but that is considered by most gamers to be lame since it's boring and not a good display of skill.

Example

I can't believe he beat his opponent just by inflicting chip damage
Street Fighter knock out by chip damage
