Scratch damage is a video game term that refers to the damage inflicted on a player who blocks an opponent's special move but still experiences damage. It is called scratch damage since the damage is very small.

Scratch damage occurs in fighting video games that revolve around 1 on 1 combat such as Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter. It is more commonly known as "chip damage" and may be used as a tactic for defeating an opponent, although it is frowned upon because it is considered to be cheap.
