Chipping is a gaming term that refers to the attacking of an opponent with a special attack that is blocked but still does a small amount of damage to the blocker. It is most commonly seen in fighting games such as Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter.
Chipping comes from the "chip damage" gaming term. It can be used as a strategy to win a fight although it's frowned upon by others since it's boring and cheap.
