Ticking

What does ticking mean?

Attacking a blocking opponent

Ticking is a gaming term that decribes the attacking of an opponent who blocks the attack but still accrues a little bit of damage. It is used in fighting games such as Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat.

The term is more commonly known as chipping, which comes from "chip damage." Ticking is a cheap way of beating an opponent since it doesn't require much skill, as it's more about overpowering a weaker opponent.

Example

All this ticking has got my opponent down to 10% health so now I'm gonna finish him off
