Cryptocurrency users may refer to U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Commissioner Hester Peirce as Crypto Mom. Crypto-enthusiasts dubbed Peirce Crypto Mom to praise her advocacy for Bitcoin, blockchain, and cryptocurrencies.

How did Peirce become Crypto Mom?

In 2018, Peirce disagreed with the SEC's decision to reject a Bitcoin-related ETF backed by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss (of Facebook drama fame). Peirce's support for the ETF led members of the cryptocurrency community to praise her and give her the nickname Crypto Mom. Since then, Peirce has continued to advocate for other pro-cryptocurrency policies and regulations.
