In Australia, to dog shot someone means to hit them from behind or while they are distracted. Similar to the American sucker punch, dog shotting someone is usually looked down upon and considered cowardly.
In 2013 and 2014, after two notable murders that involved dog shots (or, as they have been called when they lead to death, king shots), Australia launched an aggressive campaign to relabel dog shots as coward punches. New South Wales also introduced a "one-punch" law that established a minimum eight-year sentence for offenders who throw a fatal dog shot under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
