Douche

Douche (pronounced "doosh") is an abbreviated version of douchebag, which is an insult. It implies the person is a jerk or thinks too highly of himself.

You may see or hear people use douche online and in person whenever anyone acts mean or arrogant. For example, if a person is being unruly on social media (which is just about everyone), you might say, "That douche needs to log off and touch grass."

Some people may be offended by using douche as an insult, like in schools and formal workplaces. Therefore, be reasonable with whom you use it or choose a more palatable insult, like "simpleton."

Origin of douche

The slang term "douche" comes from "douchebag," which comes from an actual douchebag (a part of a medical apparatus for cleaning out human orifices for hygienic purposes). Douchebag as an insult dates back to at least the 1940s when people used it to insult people as "dirty" or "unclean," but then became popular, along with douche, in the 1980s and 90s.
