HBP

What does HBP stand for?

Hit by pitch

A baseball statistic that keeps track of how many times a player has been hit by a pitch.

If the plate umpire believes that the player's body or clothing was hit by a pitch, he awards the player first base. Players are usually hit by a pitch because they are crowding the plate but sometimes the pitcher throws wild. If a player is hit, it is similar to the BB stat, it does not count as a hit or at bat.

Example

He has 3 HBPs in this game alone, is that a record?
