KOTOR

What does KOTOR stand for in Star Wars?

Knights of the Old Republic

Star Wars fans use KOTOR to refer to Knights of the Old Republic, a video game series and setting in the Star Wars Expanded Universe. The first KOTOR game is set four thousand years before the original Star Wars films, at a time when the Sith are attempting to destroy the original Galactic Republic.

The KOTOR video games are RPGs, in which players play as a Jedi who can align with either the light or dark side of the Force. The original two games in the series show different endings based on whether the player chooses the light side or the dark side. The third is an MMORPG, named Star Wars: The Old Republic, in which players join the Republic or the Sith at the game's start.

Notably, KOTOR is the only original Expanded Universe setting that remains active since Disney purchased the rights to Star Wars. This means all the KOTOR games, comics, and novels are still technically SW canon.
