When someone sends you LOTI, it means they're "laughing on the inside." This person either can't or doesn't want to LOL right now, so they're keeping their laughter to themselves.

For example, if you send your SO a hilarious video while they're working, they might respond with LOTI. This means your SO appreciates the video, but doesn't want to laugh out loud, for fear of drawing attention to themself or startling their co-workers.
