Gamers use MMOG as shorthand for "massively multiplayer online game." This acronym refers to online games in which thousands (or even millions) of players are connected and playing at the same time.
Most commonly, when players are talking about MMOGs, they're talking about MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online role-playing games) like World of Warcraft (WoW) or Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV). In those games, players explore the same virtual worlds together, and can meet up to form parties or fight each other. However, MMORPGs are not the only type of MMOGs. Popular online games like Call of Duty (CoD), Fortnite, Rocket League, and Destiny 2 are also MMOGs.
