Momala

Who is Momala?

Kamala Harris

Social media users sometimes refer to Kamala Harris as Momala. In a 2019 ELLE essay, Harris shared that her stepchildren refer to her as Momala, and the nickname stuck among Democrats and other Harris supporters.

Momala is mostly used in place of Harris's name when she's taking action to help her constituents or fellow Democrats. For example, when Harris cast the tie-breaking vote to pass the Biden administration's first covid relief package, many Twitter users celebrated Momala's ability to enact the legislation. On some occasions, however, detractors use the Momala nickname in an attempt to mock Harris (as though being motherly is something worth mocking).
