A bonus mom is a woman who helps parent a child from another mother. The person may be an instamom, the child's dad's girlfriend, a female friend of the child's parent, the mother of the child's friend, or the child's female teacher.
Bonus moms are typically seen as role models by the child and take on some of the responsibilities of a parent. They may give rides, go to little league games, buy presents, help with homework, or help change diapers. It is the female version of bonus dad and goes with the saying "It takes a village to raise a child."
