What does mule mean?

Alternate character for storage

An MMORPG gaming term that refers to a character that is created for the sole purpose of carrying or storing inventory items, and thus is referred to as a mule; created when the storage capacity of the main character runs out; often is a level 1 or low-level character.

Example

I have five mules now because I like to keep all my gear sets from past game expansion packs
