IC
IC has 2 meanings
- 1.I see
- 2.In character
In character
Those playing RPGs (or otherwise roleplaying) may use IC to stand for "in character." This acronym signals that the rest of the player's message is meant to be read as though spoken by their character, not the player themself.
Typically, players use IC to signal that they're reverting to speaking as their character, after previously having sent an OOC (out of character) message. In addition to seeing IC used while playing Dungeons & Dragons (DnD) and other RPGs, you may see it used in RPC.
Example
Okay, IC again: You there! Stop or be destroyed!

IC is a common abbreviation for "I see." You might encounter IC in chat and text messages, in online forums, and even on social media.
"I see" is a phrase people use to state they understand something. Usually, people say "I see" after receiving a clarification or explanation. Because "c" is pronounced the same as "see," and one letter is slightly quicker to type than three, people have been using IC as a textual stand-in for "I see" for some time.
