What does oiy mean?

Hey

British and Australian people use oiy to mean hey. Just like hey, oiy can be used to greet someone or get someone's attention.

For example, if your friend Greg shows up at a party, you could say "Oiy, Greg!" to greet him. Then, if Greg doesn't respond to your greeting, you could shout "OIY, GREG!" to get his attention.
