Spawn camping is a gaming slang term that describes a situation where a player or team repeatedly attacks opponents as soon as they respawn (re-enter the game after being defeated). It happens near the enemy's spawn point, making it difficult or nearly impossible for them to escape, fight back, or participate in the match. Being spawn camped is often frustrating for players, as it can lead to a cycle of instant defeats with little chance to recover.
Gamers commonly use the term in first-person shooters (FPS), multiplayer online battle arenas (MOBAs), and other competitive games that have fixed respawn locations. Spawn camping has been part of gaming culture since early multiplayer shooters like Quake and Halo, and it's often considered poor sportsmanship or even griefing because it exploits predictable spawn locations. Many modern games include mechanics, such as temporary invincibility or multiple spawn points, to prevent players from being spawn camped.
