TANSTAAFL

What does TANSTAAFL stand for online?

There ain't no such thing as a free lunch

TANSTAAFL is another way of saying, "nothing is for free." People may use it online when chatting, on social media, or gaming to call out someone for trying to get something for free.

For example, you may be arguing with your friend about paying back a movie ticket you bought him and message him, "You still owe me for the movie last month. TANSTAAFL!" Or, you might be playing an MMO and invoke "TANSTAAFL" when trading items.

People may also send TANSTAFL instead of TANSTAAFL since it is one character shorter. The shorter acronym removes a character (the "A" for "a").

Example

You're going to have to give me more than 150 gold for the steel armor. TANSTAAFL!
