In RPGs, MMORPGs, and MOBAs, a tank is a character whose primary role is to take the brunt of opponents' attacks, so other team members don't have to. When combat starts, tanks are typically first to enter the fray, with support and DPS characters following behind.
Tanks usually have high HP, strong armor, and buffs that help them endure damage. Many tanks also possess abilities that allow them to lure or "taunt" enemies, forcing those enemies to attack them.
