TTRPG

What does TTRPG stand for?

Tabletop role-playing game

A TTRPG is a tabletop role-playing game. These spoken-word RPGs are primarily meant to be played in-person, by a group of people gathered around a table.

In most TTRPGs, one person acts as the game master (GM) or dungeon master (DM) while the others role-play fantastic characters. Working together, the players and the GM craft a compelling story, in which the players' characters (usually) overcome whatever obstacles the GM has set before them.

These days, many TTRPG playgroups gather and play online rather than IRL. For example, many DnD groups use tools like Roll20.net and Tabletop Simulator to stand in for physical gaming tables. However, while playing online is convenient, there's nothing quite like rolling a d20 onto an actual table and waiting with your friends to see the result.
