Those going "villain mode" have decided to stop caring about other people's feelings and get what's theirs. These "villains" may also seek revenge on those who have wronged them, such as an xbf or xgf.

The concept of villain eras and villain mode began permeating social media and the public consciousness in 2022 (perhaps because villain mode songs like Witchz "Villain Mode" and Taylor Swift's "Vigilante Sh*t" were released that year). Some people use villain mode to describe healthy, assertive behaviors, such as setting clear boundaries and not letting others walk all over them. (Yes, it's wild these behaviors are deemed "villainous.") Others go much further, and use villain mode to describe unhealthy behaviors like lying, trashtalking others, and enacting vengeance on their enemies.
