A volcel is a person, typically a cis, heterosexual male, who has chosen to be celibate (i.e. not engage in sexual activities with others). Online, volcels are most often discussed in contrast to incels, who are involuntarily celibate.
The incel community coined the term volcel to refer to people who likely could have sex if they wanted to, but prefer not to. Because many incels are sexually frustrated men who cannot imagine turning down sex, they often believe self-proclaimed volcels (especially male volcels) are either lying or "incels in denial."
However, there are many people who, for whatever reason, legitimately have no interest in having sex. For example, asexual people are volcels, as are unmarried people who have chosen to wait until marriage to have sex.
