20

What does 20 mean?

Location

When someone asks for your 20, they want to know where you are. People often use 20 when messaging via texts or online to attain your location and meet up with you.

The term comes from the 10-20 code police use over the radio to determine the location of an officer, incident, etc. As people began chatting online and texting more frequently in the late-1990s and early-2000s, they started using 20 to find out friends' locations.

For example, if you are meeting friends at a game in a stadium, you might text them, "We are in section 130. What's your 20?" Remember that since 20 is an abbreviation of 10-20 and most people don't know police codes, you should probably only use 20 with people who are up on their texting lingo.
