BLM is an acronym for the activist group Black Lives Matter. The group considers themselves as an ideological and political force in a society where black people are intentionally and systematically targeted.
The movement began in 2013 as a response to the acquittal of George Zimmerman in regards to the death of Trayvon Martin, a black teenager. BLM is responsible for organizing protests and demonstrations that bring attention to injustices against black people. The BLM acronym is most commonly seen preceded with a hashtag on social sites like Twitter and Facebook.
