Cinderella is an underdog sports team. It describes a surprise team that achieves more than what is generally expected of them.

The term often appears in the March Madness tournament when an underdog team upsets other "better" teams and goes farther than most people expect from them. Cinderella sports teams ar a fan favorite because they show that the "little guy" can win and they provide more entertainment value.
