Dad praising is when a person praises a dad for performing simple parenting tasks, such as feeding his kids or changing their diapers. The praising may occur as a verbal compliment in person, a nonverbal expression, such as a smile or thumbs up, or as a comment online in a parenting forum or on social media.
Many people believe that dad praising is a product of a greater societal problem, where dads aren't expected to do much as parents but moms are expected to be perfect, nurturing parents. This leads to "Mom shaming," which is when moms are constantly criticized for their parenting choices.
Some examples of dad praising include complimenting dads that go grocery shopping with their kids, change the kids' diapers, put the kids to bed, get them dressed in the morning, feed them meals, take extended time off from work to help with a newborn, drop them off and pick them up at school, and go to parent-teacher conferences. The term may also appear as "Dad-praising" or "Daddy praising."
