DDLC (Doki Doki Literature Club!) is a visual novel that appears to be a dating simulator but is actually a psychological horror game. Because of its unorthodox gameplay and characters, DDLC has garnered a cult following.
(Spoilers ahead, btw.)
In DDLC, players play as a high school student who begrudgingly joins the school's literature club. Initially, the player is given the chance to romance three female members of the club. No matter what the player does, however, one of the club members kills herself. And from there the game gets really weird.
Developer Dan Salvato and a small team of additional developers, known as Team Salvato, released the original DDLC in 2017. Team Salvato and Serenity Forge released an expanded version of the game, called Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!, in 2021.
