In March Madness, the "Elite Eight" are the last eight teams in the tournament. It is one of several alliteration terms that refer to the number of teams left, with the other two being Sweet Sixteen and Final Four.
The last eight teams in the tournament are the last two teams in the East, West, Midwest, and South regions. Each team in the Elite Eight won their Sweet Sixteen game.
Then, the winner of the Elite Eight (or Elite 8) game goes to the Final Four. Finally, whoever wins the Final Four game, goes to the championship game.
