Patrons of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza use FNAF to stand for Five Nights at Freddy's. Primarily, FNAF is a horror video game series, in which players assume the role of a pizzeria employee who must escape the clutches of various animatronic characters. However, the FNAF games have inspired several multimedia spin-offs, including novels and comic books.
Developer Scott Cawthon released the original FNAF in 2014. The game quickly became beloved by fans, who appreciated its deep lore, tense moments, and frightening jump-scares. YouTubers and streamers, specifically, flocked to the game, because their reactions to the game's scares made for engaging content.
FNAF has spawned many, many official and fan-made sequels. A few, such as FNAF: Help Wanted and FNAF: Security Breach, have their own, game-specific acronyms (e.g. FNAF: HW and FNAF: SB).
