GP

What does GP stand for in online chat?

Go private

Someone who asks you to GP in online chat wants to "go private." This person wants to move your conversation from a public chat room to a one-on-one PM.

Typically, people ask to GP when they want to send you sensitive information, or info that's relevant only to you. For example, if the person who asked you to GP wants to meet IRL, they may send you their address in a PM. (Of course, you should always be very careful when meeting up with anyone you've previously talked to only online.)
