A GPOY is a gratuitous picture of yourself posted on Tumblr, a microblogging and social networking site. You may also see it on other social sites like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace.
The acronym gained popularity on Tumblr in 2012 as a tag people could accommodate with the picture they uploaded. Typically, a GPOY consists of a female taking a selfie, sometimes in a suggestive pose. However, pictures may be other images of things that the poster identifies with, such as inspirational quotes or food they love.
