A health acronym that represent the high density of lipoproteins that pick up excess cholesterol in your blood and take it to the liver to be broken down.
HDL cholesterol is a sign of good cholesterol, whereas LDL cholesterol is considered bad cholesterol. When HDL cholesterol is raised, the risk of heart disease may be lowered. Low-density lipoproteins deliver cholesterol to different organs and tissues and when the count is increased, can lead to excess cholesterol and narrow blood vessels that block blood flow.
