Gamers use HOMM as shorthand for Heroes of Might and Magic. This video game franchise consists of a series of turn-based strategy games, in which players play as a fantastic hero who commands a mythical army.
Publisher New World Computing released the first HOMM in 1995. The series has since been sold and acquired several times, most recently by Ubisoft. That company changed the series's official title to Might & Magic Heroes, but many players (especially those who still play the older games in the series) still refer to the series as HOMM.
