Mr is an abbreviation for "mister," which is a common way to show respect to a man. People typically add a period to the end of Mr, but this is not always the case.
You may see Mr online and in person preceding a man's full name or their last name. For example, you might refer to your boss as "Mr Sullivan" in an email or see it on the nameplate on his office door. Or, your sister may text you, "I just saw Mr Jones at the grocery store and he looks so old!"
While people use Mr to address men, they often use Ms for women and Mrs for married women.
